health (helth) “a relative state in which one is able to function well physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually in order to express the full range of one’s unique potentialities within the environment in which one is living. Current views of health and illness recognize health as more than the absence of disease.”  – Dorland’s Medical Dictionary (2009)

The key to health is function. Since the nerve system controls the function of all the parts of the body, we must keep it free of interference to be healthy. If you interfere with the nerve system you will lose optimum function and therefore, lose health.

The major interference to the nerve system is the Vertebral Subluxation causing malfunction and is a fundamental factor when understanding ill-health.

Every day your heart pumps 2,100 gallons of blood through 62,000 miles of blood vessels, every second 8,000,000 red blood cells are produced and 45 miles of nerves send impulses as rapidly as 325 miles per hour.  Amazing isn’t it?!

The innate intelligence of the body accomplishes amazing tasks. Chiropractic care focuses on the body’s ability to mediate these tasks by understanding the science of the nervous system or how information from the brain travels to various points in the body. Any interference in the spine directly affects the quality of information passing through the nerves. Chiropractors are the only health-care professionals who are dedicated to the detection of these spinal interferences called subluxations, and have the ability to gently correct them in order to allow for proper nerve signaling.  Keeping our spines free of subluxations is essential in maintaining health physically, mentally and socially.

Maintaining the integrity of your nervous system is a vital part of health. Vertebral subluxations must be corrected because they interfere with the proper function of the nerve system. Besides directly improving the internal network of the nerve system, removing subluxations, also indirectly, affect the other aspects of good health. If there is interference in your nervous system, you may not be able to properly utilize good nutrition or get the maximum benefits from exercise and rest. Your body will be less resistant to the poisons you cannot help but be exposed to, like second-hand cigarette smoke or car emissions. If you want to prevent disease, the proper attitude is not just doing certain things to prevent certain diseases. That is a futile approach. There are simply too many diseases. The proper approach is to do those things necessary to be healthy. Perhaps if everyone was doing everything necessary to promote and maintain health, we would not have to worry about preventing disease. That seems to be the most intelligent directions.

There are many ways to damage the nerve system, the most frequent cause is the Vertebral Subluxation (VS). VS is a condition where the spine is misaligned, usually due to an imbalance of external and internal forces within the body. The traumatic effect of stress or the general mistreatment of the spinal cord causes harmful nerve compression that disrupts nerve signals from the brain en-route to the rest of your body. On the surface, the result can lead to symptoms like back pain, but if uncorrected vertebral subluxations can lead to the malfunction of the organs and systems of the body.

Pressure on the nerves is a progressive, phase-by phase malfunction of your spine due to long-standing Vertebral Subluxation. To compensate for the resulting nerve damage, the innate intelligence of  the body attempts to stabilize the spine with muscle tension and tightness.

The subluxation process can continue throughout a lifetime unless the subluxation is corrected.  This is the objective of Chiropractic.
